Cortana’s Location-based reminders now work even in unsupported regions

It has always been easy to get Cortana on your handset in unsupported regions by setting your handset to US English.

This did not however mean that all of Cortana’s features worked – in particular location-based reminders, which depended on a database of local Points of Interest, often did not work in many regions.

Now Geeks on Gadgets reports that the feature is now available in far-off Jordan in the Middle East, and others have confirmed it is also available in Russia, another region without official Cortana support.

Microsoft is working hard to expand Cortana to more regions, and a location-agnostic service is of course very welcome, especially when Windows Phone is spread so thinly around the world.

Is Cortana’s location-based reminders working in your region? Let us know below.
