Destiny Ghost Edition sold out but priced well above normal on eBay

If you were hoping to get the $149.99 Destiny Ghost Edition for the Xbox One at your local games retailer, you are out of luck as the limited collector's version of Bungie's upcoming sci-fi shooter is sold out. However, there are plenty of the Ghost editions on eBay, but be prepared to pay a lot more than the standard price.
Platformer game Hyper Cell launches on Windows Phone first, iOS and Android soon

This doesn't happen often, so it gets us excited when a new game releases on Windows Phone first, and then moves to iPhone and Android. It's usually the other way around. That's the case with Hyper Cell, a minimalist survival platformer. If you're Interested in lasers and electronic music, then you're going to enjoy this game.
Hyper Cell comes with a little warning. The about page says, "Some players may be sensitive to the effects, so please play with caution." Still curious? Head past the break to watch our gameplay video on the Nokia Lumia 930.

Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 SDK and Emulators now available for developers

Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 is now rolling out to those enrolled in the Preview for Developers program. Enthusiasts and developers can try out the latest version of Microsoft's mobile operating system by participating in the program. This update introduces new features, like Live Folders on the Start Screen, and also introduces support for new device resolutions. Developers will want to grab the new Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 SDK and emulators to test against those resolutions.
Smartwatch API support for Windows Phone 8.1 found in GDR1 update

For a few months now, you may have heard us mention that smartwatches and smart accessories were on the horizon for Windows Phone, especially towards August and September. The FitBit app announced last week is the first in that volley, and more are coming later this month.
Developer Jeremy Sinclair has now gone through the Update 1 for Windows Phone 8.1 that is rolling out today for Preview users and documented all the new APIs available. It is quite telling, as many of these APIs are to handle background and telephony tasks for those connected devices.

HTC 8X and 8S owners report not getting Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1

A number of owners of the HTC 8X and 8S smartphones are reporting that they are not getting prompted to download the just launched Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 files, and we have contacted Microsoft to hopefully find out the reason for this discrepancy.

Fail Hard, a Windows Phone game for the stuntman in all of us

Fail Hard is an arcade styled game for your Windows Phone that has you assuming the role of a backyard stuntman who must conquer a wide range of obstacle courses.
The game has nine stages or environments that are filled with multiple levels of action. As you play the game, you will earn coins that can be used to upgrade existing gear or used to buy new equipment. Just be warned, you will crash and burn often with Fail Hard - much in the spirit of Fail Army, a favorite channel with the staff that highlights epic fails.
A universal game, available for Windows 8 and all Windows Phone 8, Fail Hard is a fun, nicely animated, challenging Windows Phone game that is a great option to consider when you need to kill some time.
CEF Photos, a photo history of Canada and the Great War

CEF Photos is a Windows Phone reference app that delivers over 1,100 photos of the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War I. While Great Britain and the United States often took center stage, 620,000 men and women of the CEF served during the First World War. The mostly volunteer force participated in several major battles across the European theatre and carried a strong reputation as being an effective military formation.
CEF Photos may not appeal to everyone but with the First World War passing its 100-year anniversary, the app may present a different perspective on things to history buffs.
