PSA – Developer devices are not the same as Preview for Developers (and no, you are not getting Cyan)
8/15/2014 7:19:00 PM
Earlier this morning, the Nokia Developer Team tweeted out some information regarding developer devices getting Lumia Cyan. The Lumia 920 is now getting Lumia Cyan, with the Lumia 620 getting it next week and the Lumia 820 in early September. Good news, right?
Unfortunately, a few fan blogs took this news to mean that phones enrolled with the Preview for Developers program are now getting the Lumia Cyan update, which is far from accurate.
Bill Gates does best ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video yet
8/15/2014 7:12:45 PM
Bill Gates does it best. Two days ago we showed you Satya Nadella taking part in the ALC Ice Bucket Challenge that's been going around. The purpose of this social media campaign is to raise awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a serious neurodegenerative disease. Mark Zuckerburg of Facebook recently challenged Bill Gates. As you'll see in the video below, Bill Gates took the challenge like a champ.

Surface Pro 3 Docking Station now available from Microsoft, Best Buy, and Staples
8/15/2014 6:07:55 PM
This is just a quick reminder that the Surface Pro 3 Docking Station is available today for those in the US and Canada to purchase. The Docking Station is the big kahuna of accessories for the new Surface Pro 3 as it allows you to make a full desktop PC out of the hybrid laptop and tablet. The new Docking Station greatly improves upon the previous generation by giving users more of what they want, and I have to admit it is very enticing.

Swarm for Windows Phone picks up second bug-fixing update
8/15/2014 5:18:39 PM
It is never easy mass releasing a new app for any OS because testing on a few devices with a few users is one thing, mass testing with the world is another. Foursquare's new Swarm app came out two days ago, and it is now on its second update since then (the first came out just hours after the initial release). Being good developers the Swarm team is passing on the changes too with some specificity, so they get a small golf clap from us for keeping us informed.
Headed to the Store, and you can see version 1.0.0.11 ready for download, up from 1.0.0.5 from Wednesday.
Lumia 620, 720 and 820 begin getting Lumia Cyan; Russian Federation and Ukraine finally get updates too
8/15/2014 4:20:54 PM
The Lumia Cyan and Windows Phone 8.1 updates are going wider in the last few days. Over the last 24-hours, numerous tips have been coming in regarding wider availability of the updates for users who are still on Windows Phone 8.0.
Of interest is seeing the Lumia 520 go wider, especially in the Asia Pacific region and some countries in Africa. The Lumia 620, 720 and 820 are also seeing releases concentrated in Europe, for now. Finally, those who reside in the Russian Federation and Ukraine are getting their first taste of the Cyan as the Lumia 625, Lumia 1020, and Lumia 1320 are now getting updates in those areas.

Minimalist Atmosphere Weather jumps from Windows Phone to Windows as a universal app
8/15/2014 2:51:20 PM
Much like Wunderlist, which as a universal app is built on the same code for Phone and Windows 8.1, highly praised Atmosphere Weather is now available for your tablet or PC. Leveraging the unique opportunity for developers who can target both platforms, Atmosphere Weather brings the same elegant form and functionality to the larger screen.
The app is brand new to the Store, just launching this morning. Assuming you bought the 99 cent version for Windows Phone, there is no new purchase for the Windows 8.1 one as the 'pay once, get everywhere' model applies to this release.
