PayPal 4.0 for Windows Phone brings fresh new UI and keeps up with other platforms
8/1/2014 3:03:23 PM

The PayPal app for Windows Phone has not been on our radar since a year ago in 2013, but today a major 4.0 update is going out and with it comes a new UI. Rather, this new UI is the same as found on Android and iOS, making the Windows Phone on parity with those platforms.

In terms of features, you still get the usual fare, including managing your account, push notifications, send or request money and the increasingly more relevant Local feature, which lets you visit local shops that take PayPal as a form of payment.

Solar Warfare lands on Windows Phone, shoots it up, and flies off
8/1/2014 2:22:35 PM

Last year, Windows Phone Central broke the news of a 3D space shooter called Solar Warfare coming to Windows Phone and Windows 8. The game impressed us with its Starfox-like gameplay – we don't really see a lot of games of this type on Windows Phone. We followed up earlier this year with the first look at the actual Windows Phone version of the game.

It has been a long time coming, but Solar Warfare from TegTap is finally available on Windows Phone! The Windows 8 version should follow later this year. The game looks just as sharp as promised, with smooth 3D graphics and vibrant colors. It controls quite smoothly with tilt controls, which is good because the promised MOGA controls don't work yet. It does support 512 MB devices right out of the gate though! See Solar Warfare in action on the Lumia 1520 in our exclusive hands-on video.

Windows Phone Navigation App Smack Down: NAVIGON vs. HERE Drive+
8/1/2014 1:18:55 PM

The Windows Phone Store has a nice selection of navigational apps that can help you get around town or get across the country. NAVIGON and HERE Drive+ are two of the more popular options available on Store shelves. Along with a full host of features, these two mapping apps take advantage of downloadable maps to help minimize your dependency on data while traveling.

I recently took a short jump out of town and decided to re-visit both these apps to see if one stood heads and shoulders above the other. I used both apps periodically on the round trip journey, as well as around town while at my destination. While we've looked at these two navigation apps before, having logged 1,300 miles on my trip I figured it was worth taking another look at things.

8/1/2014 11:59:19 AM

Hues is a relatively new puzzle game for Windows Phone that is inspired by the puzzle game 2048. It shares the same addictive quality of the popular numbers game but replaces pairing numbered tiles with tiles (or cards) of the same color.

Hues has three gaming modes to keep you on your toes, a few power-ups to help you survive game play and an online leaderboard system.

Available for low-memory devices, Hues comes across as a challenging and entertaining way to pass the time with. Hues is a Windows Phone puzzle game that will appeal to users of all ages.
