Cortana can do impressions, you won't believe what she says next
7/14/2014 11:09:53 PM

We're not sure when this feature was added, but Cortana can now do impressions. Simply ask Cortana to "do an impression," or "do an impersonation" and listen to some of her responses. There are not many impressions right now, but definitely try it on your device with Windows Phone 8.1 Preview for Developers. We've tried it on our Nokia Lumia Icon. Head past the break to watch our hands-on video.

7/14/2014 9:58:25 PM

Last week, T-Mobile US and Microsoft began selling the Nokia Lumia 635, the speedy brother of the budget Lumia 630 with 4G LTE. The Lumia 635 is replacing the older (and cheaper) Lumia 521, which is one of T-Mobile's best selling Windows Phones to date.

Announced last week, the Lumia 635 runs for $0 down + $7 per month for 24 months ($168) with a postpaid Simple Choice plan on T-Mobile. Alternatively, it is also soon available on MetroPCS for a flat-rate of $99 prepaid. The Lumia 635 comes in white although people can optionally purchase shells to change the color to bright green, bright orange or yellow.

7/14/2014 9:18:03 PM

Someday we might have have an official Tinder app available on Windows Phone. In the meantime, we've got a few unofficial apps from third-party developers. One them, 6tin, has had a turbulent time in the Windows Phone Store so far. It's been disappeared and reappeared a handful of times. As of now, it looks like it might stick around a bit. Today it just picked up an update that adds a feature you won't find in the official Tinder apps on iOS or Android.

Big Business Deluxe review – Build a business empire on Windows Phone
7/14/2014 9:06:08 PM

Game Insight knows a thing or two about city building games. The Russian publisher has already brought two My City titles and Airport City over to Windows Phone and Windows 8. Each of these genre entries does things a little differently from the rest. 2020 My Country, for example, takes place in a near future setting. Airport City focuses on building a thriving airport and its urban surroundings.

Big Business Deluxe is Game Insight's latest city builder for Windows Phone (Windows 8 and RT versions will come later). As you might expect, this one goes into much more depth on the business side of things. Players will start new businesses and factories, developing goods into new products and using the profits to further expand their burgeoning metropolises. It works with phones with 512 MB of RAM right out of the gate and is a relatively small download, so all Windows Phone 8 users can have a chance at starting their own business empires.

7/14/2014 9:00:13 PM

Do you go on Reddit a lot? If you do, you're probably not too happy with the app selection for Reddit apps on Windows 8.1. There are some decent apps, but none really stand out. I've been pretty happy with an app called 'Reddit on ReddHub'. If I had to recommend one app for you to check out today for Reddit on Windows 8.1 it would be that app. Which is why I'm super excited for an upcoming update to the app that's going to drop soon. We're a quick sneak peek at the future of ReddHub.

The main message in the video is that you can take great photos, access them from your favorite devices, and share them with the people who matter most. In addition to the 41-megapixel cameraphone, Microsoft also features OneDrive and Instagram.

Microsoft takes Cortana to college to help with academic research
7/14/2014 7:43:00 PM

Cortana may or may not hold a college degree, but that's not stopping it from aiding in the research of academics who rely on the smarts of Windows Phone's digital assistant. Thanks to its reliance on Bing's search engine, Cortana will be able to integrate academic data more tightly into her repertoire starting this fall.
