The private beta app for BBM on Windows Phone may be here but you can't have it yet

BlackBerry may be the struggling for relevancy in 2014, but they still have a couple of valuable properties, including their BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service, which is now on iOS and Android. Earlier this year, BlackBerry announced that a version for Windows Phone was also on the way, and July was last reported as the due date.

With that introduction, it should not be surprising to find the private beta of the app hiding out on the Store under the BlackBerry Limited publishing name. However, like all good things, you cannot download it yet. Private beta means you have to be on the tester list, and that involves using your Microsoft Account ID. As a result, you can look at the app on the Store, but you can not download.

Foundbite is one of our favorite apps on Windows Phone. Why? It's a solid app that's really fun and it's exclusive to Windows Phone. We don't have too many apps that are 100 percent unique to Windows Phone, but the few we do are really good. Foundbite has also just been updated today, so we're going to take a look at some of the new features in this latest version.








 

Destiny limited and Ghost editions revealed

Developer Bungie and publisher Activision have announced the contents of the special limited and Ghost editions of the long awaited sci-fi first person shooter Destiny, which will begin its beta test July 24 for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 game consoles.








 

Another report squashes Surface mini's summer launch rumor

ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley is now pouring cold water over a rumor this morning by "evleaks" who said the Surface mini tablet would come out this summer. Foley stated her sources have indicated the tablet won't be out until sometime in 2015.

A new mobile phone from Microsoft has been spotted getting the approval of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, but so far the details of what it might be remain a mystery.








 

Gartner: PC, tablet and mobile phone shipments to go up 4.2 percent in 2014

The research firm Gartner is predicting that the total number of PC, tablet and mobile phone shipments will go up 4.2 percent worldwide in 2014, with traditional PC shipments starting to recover while tablets slow down.








 

Destiny beta test begins July 23 for Xbox One and Xbox 360

Destiny, the long awaited sci-fi first person shooter from developer Bungie, the original creators of the Halo series, will launch its beta test July 23 for Microsoft's Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles, a week after it begins for PlayStation 3 and PS4 owners.
