The first commercial for the Chinese Xbox One is...very game-uncentric
7/11/2014 3:11:14 PM
Before the formal debut which is planned for September this year, Microsoft and its Chinese joint-venture partner BesTV just brought the Chinese version of Xbox One to China International Cartoon & Game Expo (July 10 - 14, in Shanghai), for a brief demonstration. A quite lengthy commercial for the console was revealed, highlighting the Chinese Xbox One's, um, for lack of better words, let's say "highly localized functionality and marketing strategy".
Here is the video itself, in Chinese, for your enjoyment. There are English subtitles, but sadly they are blocked by all those human heads. I'll try to explain what exactly happened in the video below.

Mortar Melon review – Save the fruit in this lovely Windows Phone and Windows 8 physics game
7/11/2014 12:24:54 PM
Microsoft fans dream of a connected ecosystem in which we can buy a game once and play it on phone, tablet, PC, and console. We're not quite there yet, but at least some game developers are supporting all of those platforms. Take London-based indie developer Mudvark Limited. Mudvark's debut title Mortar Melon is already available on both Windows Phone and Windows 8 and RT. And soon it will come to Xbox One as part of the ID@Xbox program.
Mortar Melon is a physics-based puzzle game in which players try to fire watermelons through obstacle-filled levels and safely into a basket. The game is free to play on both Windows Phone and Windows 8, with an extra batch of levels available as an in-app purchase. It runs on Windows Phones with 512 MB of RAM, so everybody can have fun breaking, I mean saving watermelons.
Tap Tap Glider, an endless flier game for Windows Phone
7/11/2014 12:00:42 PM
Tap Tap Glider is a nicely drawn up endless runner styled game that has you piloting a paper airplane through a maze of obstacles.
Controls are minimal and game play has its moments. Tap Tap Glider plays out like Line Birds or, dare I say, Flappy Bird and is an enjoyable time killer of a game. Available for low-memory devices, Tap Tap Glider could use a few more features but as is, the game is an appealing addition to the Windows Phone gaming library.
Monty Python's Ministry of Silly Walks game is coming to Windows Phone
7/11/2014 11:32:42 AM
The Ministry of Silly Walks is humorous game for iOS and Android, based on the hilarious Monty Python sketch bearing the same name. Why is this interesting for Windows Phone consumers? Only because John Cleese himself has shared with Twitter that a version for Microsoft's mobile platform is well on the way, thanks to "silly demand".

Microsoft Africa partners with local operator to offer carrier billing in Kenya
7/11/2014 7:22:37 AM
Microsoft has teamed up with African mobile operator Safaricom to provide consumers residing in Kenya the means to purchase Windows Phone apps and games through their contract. This removes the requirement to have a credit card configured on a Microsoft account before being able to download content from the app store. Purchasing apps and games will add the displayed price to airtime balances or postpaid bills.
